; I am starting work on the documentation, as well as cleaning up these
; sample config files. Please bear with me; this is still a product that is
; in beta. The SMPT/NNTP stuff is mostly done, so I should have more time
; working on something legible.

; Steps to setting GIGO up ......
;
; 1: Make sure you have the hardware; ie, a 386 with 4 megs of ram.
; For the window running GIGO, make sure there is at least two
; megs of EMS available, at 500k conventional. (Os/2 users:
; Aren't you glad this is a thing of the past?)
;
; 2: Make sure you know your fidonet system.
; If you are using FrontDoor, you need something to convert
; netmail into *.PKT files. I suggest "NETMGR" (or "NETMGRP").
;
; GIGO reads and writes *only* fidonet packets - not compressed
; mail bundles, nor netmail messages. Only *.PKT files ready
; for transport.
;
; 3: Decide how you're going to hook up. UUCP is the most common.
; Usually, the cheapest as well. SLIP/PPP is supported in the
; OS/2 environment (using Warp's IAK, or the TCP/IP v2.0 package).
; I suggest this route when the connection is not metered,
; and you can be hooked up 24 hours a day. Docs for the TCP/IP
; stuff are in it's own package.
;
;
; Third party Windows SLIP/PPP support may show in the future by
; other developers.
;
; UUCP TCP/IP w/OS/2
;
; Grab FXUUCICO or other Grab GIGTxxxx, which
; waffle compatible contains the corresponding TCP/IP
; UUCP transfer program stuff for that GIGO release.
;
; Read the docs, set it up. Read the docs, set it up.
;
; Step 1: Make sure that you have a UUCP acccont with your provider.
; (Or, a PPP/SLIP account, with OS/2)
; Step 2: Grab FX-UUCICO if you are using UUCP.
;
;
; 4: Your gateway needs it's own fidonet address.
; It can be a point off of you, or a fake address;
; it *can not* be the same as your real fidonet address though.
;
; 5: Edit the *.CFG files for GIGO. Be sure to read the comments
; by all of the available options.
;
; Ready to test!
;
; Make sure that GIGO has some *.PKT's to read; run
; C> GATEWAY.EXE
;
; Note any errors; a lot of common mistakes are picked up before
; GIGO starts trying any real work. Make note of them, check
; your configs, and try again.
;
; An additional note: GIGO is *just* the translator. It does
; not actually call anybody. It does not "toss" mail. It does
; not hub. Each of these functions are handled by programs
; well suited for thos tasks.
; PS: PEOPLE WITH BUG REPORTS SHOULD READ "REPORT.BUG"!

;
; Warning:
;
; This file is a mess. Almost as bad as certain other config files
; that I've seen. :-) However, you should be able to find all of
; the information you need, IN the config file.
;
; Try to take things one line at a time; it goes a bit easier that way.
;
; If you still need help, there is a mailing list (internet) as well
; as a fidonet echo devoted to GIGO help. In addition, the UFGATE
; conference seems to get a log of GIGO traffic :-)
;
; When upgrading, _ALWAYS_, __ALWAYS__, read the NOTES file.
;
; *** To load config files other than the default "gateway.cfg" ..
;
; You may specify which config file to use while running, by specifying
; the config file name on the command line. You may also run more than
; one instance of the gateway by specifying more than one config file
; one the command line.
;
; Example> GATEWAY.EXE GATEWAY.CFG PRIVATE.CFG
;
; ... would run "GATEWAY.CFG", and when done, run the "PRIVATE.CFG" seperately
;
; *** A GIGO Config File
;
; Lines leading with a semi-colon are comments and will not be
; processed by GIGO.
; Lines starting with "DOS" or "OS2" will only be used when running
; the appropriate version of GIGO.
; Ie, DOS INCLUDE DOS.CFG
; OS2 INCLUDE OS2.CFG
;
;
; *** Environment Parameters
;
; Registration Information. Once you have registered GIGO, fill in the
; SERIALNUMBER and REGISTRATION fields. These values are keyed to your
; MYSITE entry, so please ensure you report your site correctly when you
; register.
SERIALNUMBER
REGISTRATION
; TZ = Your timezone. In most cases it will be EST5, CST6, MST7, PST8.
; If you remove or leave out this field, the default is EST5
; The numeric portion should be the number of hours away from UCT you
; are; positive numbers are west of the meridian, and negative numbers
; are to the right of the meridian.
TZ PST8
; GIGO will run faster if you enable direct video, but direct screen
; writes can cause problems with some systems, or if you are using
; Desqview. If you use Desqview in 50 line text mode, or if you have
; other incompatibility, you should specify "/BIOS" on the startup line.
; GIGO can ALSO, simply turn off video once it has initialized.
; Your only indication that it's working will be your drive access
; indicator (drive light, norton disklight, etc). You may either
; specify NOVIDEO in the config, or add /NOVIDEO to your command line.
;NOVIDEO
; For fastest results, use /NOLOGO /NOVIDEO when starting up.
; The following are if you wish to restrict GIGO by skipping
; the RNEWS or RMAIL processes, or by not deleting the original file.
;
; Alternately, you may use the following commands on the command line
; when loading GIGO to specify the actions you *DO* want.... i.e.,
; GATEWAY SACBBX.CFG /MAIL
; Valid command line switches: /MAIL /NEWS /FIDO
;TEST ; Do not delete files when done
; Swapping when running DOS apps:
; If you are running the DOS version of GIGO, you will most likely
; require the SWAP keyword, to force GIGO to swap to disk to run
; programs like COMPRESS, LISTSERV, etc. You can try not swapping -
; but keep a *close* eye on it. I recommend leaving this paramter
; in. The SWAP keyword is simply ignored under OS/2.
; DOS NOSWAP - prevents SWAP'ing when shelling to DOS.
; Not recommend for most people; if you do try it,
; make sure that machine or window will *always*
; have an identical amount of memory, and watch it
; carefully!
; Memory allocation
; Define the maximum buffer sizes to allocate for usenet and fidonet
; style messages; these can be made larger than default. For people
; low on memory, they can be made somewhat smaller.
;
; If you make these values _bigger_, the window running
; GIGO will require more memory!
;
MAX_FIDONET 64000
MAX_USENET 1000000
;MAX_FIDONET 256000 ; Jason's values at home :-)
;MAX_USENET 3000000
;
; *** Directories

; Where to place the log file. There is no default. Comment or remove
; this line to skip making a log file.
LOG gigo.log
; GIGO is able to keep track of how each piece of news is processed.
; LOGKEPT will log all newsgroups that were kept and what echo names they
; were given. LOGDUMPED logs which areas were dumped, i.e., because the
; name of the area could not be found in your MAP file, they were not
; added to your BBS.
:
; If you do not need these options, turn them off - they _will_ slow
; processing down!
;LOGEMAIL gigomail.log ; logs the email traffic in/out
;LOGKEPT gigokeep.log ; Which newsgroups you impo
